Frequently Asked Questions

Colon Hydrotherapy

  • Colon hydrotherapy is a safe and gentle method of cleansing the colon by flushing it with warm, filtered water. The process helps to release and remove accumulated waste, gas and toxins from the large intestine, which supports digestive health, improves hydration and promotes overall well-being. The treatment is performed by a certified therapist using hygienic, professional-grade equipment in a private and comfortable setting.

At Royal Flush Wellness, we use state-of-the-art, FDA-approved equipment called The Angel of Water and follow strict hygiene protocols.

  • Yes, colonics are safe when performed by a trained, certified professional using sterile equipment in a clean, controlled environment. We follow strict hygiene protocols and use FDA-approved systems to ensure your comfort and safety. While colon hydrotherapy is a gentle and effective way to support detoxification and digestive health, it could in moments feel uncomfortable and it is not unusual to experience slight discomfort in a session. Our therapists are there to guide you through a session, reminding you to breathe and ensure your overall safety and comfort during a session.

  • This is one of the main misconceptions with colon hydrotherapy. The majority of what's removed during a session tends to be harmful or waste-associated bacteria that thrive in stagnant, impacted material in the colon. The colon is often overloaded with these bad bacteria due to poor diet, antibiotic usage, food borne illness / food poisoning, parasites, yeast, candida, high stress loads and environmental toxins where they are able to proliferate and thrive, creating dysbiosis and imbalance in the gut microbiome.

The beneficial bacteria, which are more deeply embedded in the colon lining and are more resilient, are far less affected. After a session, the colon can actually become a healthier environment for good bacteria to thrive—especially when supported with a balanced diet and probiotics. We recommend supporting your gut microbiome after a session with probiotics, electrolytes, nutrient rich foods and proper hydration to help restore and maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria. Many clients find that colonics actually improve their gut health over time by reducing toxic buildup and creating a better environment for beneficial bacteria to thrive.

  • Your first visit will begin with a health consultation where your certified therapist will assess your health history, current concerns and identify your health goals.

We then guide you to a private room where you will remain covered throughout the session. We use the Angel of Water (open-system), which is designed for comfort, privacy and ease of use. Once you're comfortably positioned on the ergonomic basin, a small, disposable nozzle is gently inserted. Warm, gravity-fed, filtered water will flow into the colon to soften and release waste naturally. You’re in control throughout the process and the system allows for easy elimination without odor or mess. The session typically lasts 35-50 minutes and clients report feeling lighter, refreshed and more energized afterward.

We guide you throughout your session being available to you at all times with the ring of a bell, help you to wrap up your session and make recommendations for you afterward.

  • Preparation does not need to be too complicated.

    • Do not eat 2-3 hours before your session

    • Be hydrated and drink plenty of water before, including electrolytes, add trace minerals or salt in your water

    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, fast food, fried food, and heavy meals

    • Include healthier meals, lighter meals, soups, smoothies, fruits, veggies and generally eat a clean diet before your session

    • Liquids leading up to your session and great and encouraged

If you have further questions about preparation, please send us an email or contact us via call or text.

  • The frequency of colonics depends on your individual health goals and current digestive condition. For general detox and maintenance, 1 session every 4–6 weeks is recommended. If you're starting a cleanse or addressing specific issues like constipation or bloating, a series of 3–6 sessions spaced over a few weeks may be more effective. At Royal Flush, we personalize your treatment plan based on your needs, lifestyle, and how your body responds.

  • Colonics are generally safe for many people, but there are certain conditions where colon hydrotherapy is not recommended. These are known as contraindications, and anyone with the following should avoid or postpone treatment unless cleared by a healthcare provider:

    Contraindications to Colonics:

    • Active gastrointestinal conditions (e.g., Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis)

    • Severe hemorrhoids or rectal bleeding

    • Recent abdominal, colon, or rectal surgery

    • Uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart disease

    • Pregnancy (especially in the first and third trimesters)

    • Abdominal hernias

    • Severe anemia

    • Colon cancer or tumors

    • Renal (kidney) insufficiency or failure

    • Undergoing Kidney dialysis

    • Aggravated fissures and fistulas

    • Extreme deficiencies or prolonged fasting periods

    • Epilepsy

We perform a thorough health intake before your first session to ensure colon hydrotherapy is safe and appropriate for you. Your well-being always comes first. Some exceptions can apply with a medical referral.

  • Yes, colonics are safe and hygienic when performed by trained, certified professionals using sterile, FDA-approved equipment. At Royal Flush Wellness, we follow strict sanitation protocols to ensure that all tools are single-use and thoroughly cleaned between sessions. The process is performed in a clean, controlled environment, ensuring your comfort and safety at all times. With these precautions in place, colonics are a safe and effective way to support digestive health and detoxification.

  • The instrument used for colon hydrotherapy, typically a soft, flexible tube, is designed to be discreet and comfortable. The tube is very small in diameter, generally about the size of a pencil or pinky and is connected to the equipment that gently administers warm, filtered water into the colon. The procedure is designed to be non-invasive and comfortable and the equipment is sterile and disposable for each client to ensure safety and hygiene.

  • During a colon hydrotherapy session, you have the option to either self-insert the small, soft tube or have a trained professional assist you. If you choose to self-insert, the therapist will guide you through the process and ensure you feel comfortable and at ease. If you prefer, the therapist can also perform the insertion for you, offering assistance as needed. Either way, the goal is to make the experience as comfortable and hygienic as possible while maintaining your privacy and comfort.

  • While we generally recommend attending your session alone to ensure a focused, peaceful environment, you are welcome to bring a friend or family member with you for support, especially if it makes you feel more at ease. However, they will not be allowed in the treatment room during the procedure itself. We ask that they remain in the waiting area to maintain your privacy and the calming atmosphere. Let us know in advance if you'd like to bring someone and we’ll ensure the best experience for you both.

  • During a colon hydrotherapy session, waste, toxins and built-up residue from the colon are gently flushed out with warm, filtered water. This can include undigested food particles, gas, mucus and other accumulated waste.

You can see the material that’s released through the clear tube, which allows you to observe the process as it happens. Many clients find it satisfying to watch what is being released from their body. While the clear viewing tube allows you to see what’s being eliminated, please note that we do not assess or diagnose anything based on what is seen.

  • Yes, you can have a colonic while on your period. Many clients choose to proceed with their session as it can actually help relieve bloating and cramping. We simply ask that you wear a tampon or menstrual cup during the session for hygiene and comfort. If you’re feeling sensitive or prefer to wait, it’s perfectly okay to reschedule — your comfort always comes first.

  • Yes, you can choose to be alone in the room during your colon hydrotherapy session if that makes you more comfortable. We do our best to respect your privacy, however, there are times when the therapist does need to enter the room to assist, guide, support and help when needed. While respecting your privacy, a trained therapist will always be nearby and available to assist or support you at any time if needed. Your comfort, safety, and privacy are our top priorities.

  • Your first colon hydrotherapy session typically takes about 60 to 75 minutes, as it includes a thorough initial consultation and health intake. During this time, we’ll review your health history, discuss your goals, and answer any questions you may have to ensure the treatment is safe and tailored to your needs. The actual cleansing portion of the session lasts around 30 to 40 minutes. Follow-up sessions are generally shorter, lasting about 35 to 60 minutes depending on the clients needs. We want you to feel informed, comfortable, and supported every step of the way.

  • At Royal Flush Wellness, we use the Angel of Water® system, a state-of-the-art open system for colon hydrotherapy. This system is FDA-registered and designed with your comfort, privacy, and safety in mind. It allows for a gentle, gravity-fed flow of warm, filtered water while giving you the option to relax and retain more control during your session. The Angel of Water also features a built-in viewing tube, single-use sterile components, and a comfortable ergonomic basin to ensure a clean and dignified experience from start to finish.

  • An open system, like the Angel of Water® used at Royal Flush Wellness, allows the client to lie comfortably on a basin while a small, sterile tube is self-inserted. Warm, gravity-fed water flows gently into the colon, and the waste naturally exits through the basin and a viewing tube, with no need for pressure or manual intervention. You have more privacy and can be alone during the session, with a therapist nearby if needed.

A closed system, on the other hand, involves a therapist remaining in the room and manually operating the equipment. The water is introduced and removed through a sealed tube system, and the therapist controls the flow and pressure throughout the session.

Both systems are safe and effective when performed by trained professionals—the main difference lies in the level of privacy, comfort, and personal involvement. Many clients prefer the open system for its gentle, more independent experience.

  • Yes, you can go out, have dinner, or even work out after a colon hydrotherapy session—as long as you feel up to it. Most people feel lighter, more energized, and refreshed afterward. However, because your body has just gone through a cleansing process, we recommend listening to how you feel. Some clients prefer to take it easy, eat something light and nourishing, and stay hydrated for the rest of the day. If you do plan to exercise or go out, just make sure you feel comfortable and aren’t experiencing any cramping or fatigue.

  • Yes, a colonic can be used as part of colonoscopy preparation—however, it is important to note that a colonic will not clear out the entire colon of waste. Some physicians allow or even recommend colon hydrotherapy as a gentler alternative or complement to traditional laxative prep, especially for those who have difficulty tolerating the standard cleansing solutions. However, it’s essential that your doctor provides specific guidance, as proper bowel cleansing is crucial for a clear and accurate colonoscopy.

Colon Hydrotherapy - Prep/Aftercare

  • To prepare for your colon hydrotherapy appointment, we recommend the following:

Avoid eating at least 2-3 hours before your session to ensure your digestive system is at rest. Stay well hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water, and we also suggest including a source of electrolytes—like coconut water, mineral drops, or an electrolyte drink—to support hydration and balance during the cleansing process. Light, plant-based meals the day before can also help you feel more comfortable. Arrive relaxed, and we’ll take care of the rest!

  • Yes, you can eat after your appointment—and it’s actually important to nourish your body afterward. We recommend starting with something light, easy to digest, and nutrient-rich to support your system after cleansing.

    Good post-session options include:

    • Steamed vegetables

    • Light soups or broths

    • Fresh fruit or smoothies

    • Cooked grains (not too many), steamed fish

    • Herbal teas and plenty of water

Avoid heavy, greasy, or processed foods right after your session, as your digestive system is in a more sensitive, detoxified state. Eating clean and simple will help you feel your best and extend the benefits of your colonic.

  • Most clients do not need to urgently use the washroom after a session, as the majority of waste is flushed out during the colonic itself. However, it’s possible you may pass a small amount of water or gas afterward, especially if your body continues to release naturally. Everyone's body responds slightly differently, so it's always best to listen to how you feel.

  • It’s completely normal to feel scared, nervous, or anxious before your first colonic—many people do! At Royal Flush Wellness, we prioritize your comfort, privacy, and emotional well-being just as much as your physical health. We’ll take the time to walk you through the process, answer all your questions, and let you move at your own pace. You’ll have the option to self-insert the tube if that feels more comfortable, and a trained therapist will always be nearby for support, but only as much as you want or need. Most clients say their nerves ease quickly once the session begins and that the experience is far gentler and more empowering than they expected.

  • Some people may feel a bit backed up or experience mild bloating after a colonic—especially if it's their first session or if their digestive system is sluggish. This can happen as your body adjusts, rehydrates, or begins to move waste that was loosened but not fully released during the session.

To support a smooth recovery, we recommend staying well-hydrated, including electrolytes, and eating light, fiber-rich foods like fruits, steamed veggies, or soups. Gentle movement, like walking, can also help stimulate natural bowel function. If the feeling lasts more than a day or becomes uncomfortable, reach out—we’re here to help guide you through it.

  • The number of colonic sessions you need depends on your individual health goals and current digestive state. For general detox or maintenance, most clients benefit from 1 session every 3–6 weeks. If you're addressing specific concerns, working towards a specific health goal or preparing for a detox, a series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced a week apart is recommended for thorough detoxification and cleansing.

During your initial consultation, we’ll work with you to create a personalized plan that best suits your needs. Everyone’s body is different, so we tailor our approach to ensure the most effective, comfortable experience for you.

  • Yes, it's normal to feel a bit tired after a colonic. Since the procedure involves detoxifying the body and flushing out waste, your system may feel a bit drained or lighter as it adjusts. This is typically temporary, and many people feel energized afterward, but some may experience mild fatigue as their body continues to release toxins and recalibrate.

To support your recovery, it's helpful to stay hydrated, eat light, nourishing foods, and rest if needed. If you find yourself feeling more tired than usual after your session, it's a good idea to take it easy and allow your body the time it needs to rest and rebalance.

Lymphatic Drainage

  • Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, rhythmic therapy designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid throughout the body. The lymphatic system plays a key role in removing toxins, waste, and excess fluid, and this type of massage helps to reduce swelling, support detoxification, and boost immune function. Unlike deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage uses light, sweeping movements that follow the natural pathways of the lymphatic system. It’s especially helpful for people dealing with inflammation, fluid retention, post-surgical swelling, or those simply looking to enhance their overall wellness.

  • Lymphatic drainage massage offers a range of powerful benefits that support both detox and overall well-being. Key benefits include:

    • Reduces swelling and water retention

    • Boosts immune function by helping the body clear out toxins and waste

    • Improves circulation and lymph flow, promoting faster healing and recovery

    • Eases bloating and puffiness, especially in the face, legs, and abdomen

    • Supports detox programs by enhancing the body’s natural cleansing processes

    • Promotes relaxation and reduces stress, as the gentle touch calms the nervous system

    • Accelerates recovery after surgery, injury, or illness by reducing inflammation

Regular sessions can help you feel lighter, clearer, and more balanced—both physically and mentally.

  • You may feel lighter, more relaxed, or notice an increase in urination as your body flushes out excess fluid. Some clients feel slightly tired as the body detoxes—this is normal and passes quickly.

  • To get the most out of your lymphatic drainage massage, here’s how to prepare for your appointment:

    • Stay well-hydrated the day before and the day of your session—hydration is key to helping your lymphatic system flush out waste.

    • Avoid heavy meals right before your appointment; opt for something light if needed.

    • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that’s easy to change in and out of.

    • Avoid applying lotions or oils to your skin before the session, as dry skin allows for better contact and effectiveness.

    • Take it easy after your session, if possible—your body will be in a detox and healing mode, so rest and hydration afterward are helpful.

Let your therapist know if you’re coming in post-surgery or have any specific concerns so they can tailor the session to your needs.

  • During your lymphatic drainage session, you can expect a therapeutic experience designed to stimulate lymph flow and support detoxification. The treatment involves gentle to moderate pressure, and in some cases, it may feel slightly uncomfortable or tender, especially in areas where there is congestion, inflammation, or fluid retention. We may also use wood therapy tools to help enhance circulation and support lymphatic movement, depending on your body’s needs and your comfort level.

Your therapist will communicate with you throughout the session and adjust the technique to ensure it's effective while still respecting your pain tolerance. Afterward, you may feel lighter, notice reduced swelling, or experience increased urination as your body begins to release excess fluids and toxins.

  • Yes, lymphatic drainage massage does support weight loss—not by directly burning fat, but by helping the body function more efficiently. It reduces water retention, stimulates circulation, and gets things flowing and moving, which can lead to a lighter, leaner feeling. By clearing out excess fluids and waste, it helps reduce bloating and supports the body’s natural detox processes. When combined with a healthy lifestyle, lymphatic drainage can enhance results and keep your system working at its best.

  • Lymphatic drainage massage helps boost immunity by stimulating the lymphatic system, which plays a key role in your body’s defense against illness. The lymph system transports immune cells and removes waste, toxins, and pathogens from the body. When lymph flow is sluggish or congested, your immune system can become less effective.

By gently encouraging the movement of lymph fluid, this massage helps your body clear out toxins more efficiently, circulate white blood cells, and respond better to inflammation or infection. It’s a great way to support your immune health naturally, especially during times of stress, seasonal change, or recovery.

  • It’s possible to feel mild soreness or tenderness after a lymphatic drainage session, especially if there was a lot of congestion or water retention, or if wood therapy tools were used during treatment. Some clients may also notice minor bruising, particularly in areas with poor circulation, tight tissue, or sensitivity. This is a normal response for some bodies and usually resolves quickly.

  • The frequency of lymphatic drainage massage depends on your individual goals and needs. For general wellness, once a month is typically enough to keep your lymphatic system functioning well. However, if you're addressing specific concerns like bloating, swelling, post-surgery recovery, or detoxing, a series of sessions over a few weeks may be recommended, often around 1-2 times a week for a short period.

  • After your lymphatic drainage massage, it’s important to take a few simple steps to maximize the benefits and support your body’s detox process:

    1. Hydrate well: Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and support your lymphatic system is CRUCIAL after a session.

    2. Rest and relax: Give your body time to process the treatment and continue the detox process. Light activities, such as walking, can be helpful but avoid intense exercise immediately after.

    3. Avoid heavy meals or alcohol: Opt for a light, healthy meal to keep your body balanced. Alcohol or heavy food can strain your system during this time, avoid for at least 72 hours.

    4. Stay active: Gentle movement, like walking, can help keep the lymph fluid flowing and enhance the effects of the massage.

    5. Listen to your body: If you feel tired, allow yourself to rest. If you experience any soreness, gentle stretching or light massage can help ease discomfort.

These steps will help ensure that your body continues to detox and benefit from the lymphatic drainage.

  • Item description
  • We do work with post-op clients, however, call to inquire about booking so we can book you with a post op specialist.

Lymphatic drainage massage is essential for post-op as it helps reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing and detoxification processes.

  • Lymphatic drainage massage is generally very safe, but like any therapy, there can be a few mild side effects, especially if it’s your first session or if your body is more sensitive. These may include:

    • Mild soreness or tenderness in areas where there was congestion or fluid retention

    • Light bruising if there was deeper work or if you're prone to bruising

    • Increased urination as your body flushes out toxins and excess fluid

    • Fatigue as your body processes and detoxifies

These side effects are typically temporary and resolve quickly. If you experience any discomfort, it’s a good idea to stay hydrated and rest afterward to help your body adjust. If you have concerns or if side effects persist, don’t hesitate to reach out, and we can adjust the treatment to better suit your needs.

  • Lymphatic drainage massage is great for anyone looking to improve circulation, reduce swelling, or support detoxification. It’s especially beneficial for those with fluid retention, post-surgery recovery, chronic inflammation, or poor circulation. It also helps boost the immune system and promote relaxation. Ideal for anyone seeking better overall health, wellness, and recovery.

Holistic Health

  • A holistic health practitioner is a wellness professional who focuses on treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—rather than just symptoms. They use a combination of natural, evidence-based approaches such as nutrition, lifestyle coaching, stress management, and detox support to help clients achieve balance and long-term wellness. The goal is to address the root causes of health concerns and support the body’s natural ability to heal, often working alongside conventional medical care for a more integrated approach.

  • Holistic health differs from conventional medicine in that it focuses on treating the whole person, not just the symptoms of a specific condition. While conventional medicine often addresses illness through medication or surgery, holistic health looks at underlying causes—such as nutrition, lifestyle, stress, and emotional well-being—and aims to create balance across all areas of life. It emphasizes prevention, personalized care, and supporting the body’s natural healing abilities, often using natural therapies alongside traditional medical care when appropriate.

  • A holistic health practitioner can help with a wide range of issues by addressing root causes and supporting overall wellness. Common concerns include:

    • Digestive issues like bloating, constipation, or IBS

    • Hormonal imbalances and menstrual concerns

    • Fatigue and low energy

    • Chronic inflammation and autoimmune support

    • Weight management and metabolism

    • Anxiety, stress, and mood imbalances

    • Skin conditions, such as acne or eczema

    • Sleep disturbances

    • Immune system support

Each plan is personalized to your unique needs, with a focus on long-term, sustainable health.

  • During a consultation with a holistic health practitioner, you can expect a thorough, personalized assessment of your health. This includes discussing your medical history, diet, lifestyle, stress levels, symptoms, and overall wellness goals. The practitioner may also review lab work (if available) and ask about your sleep, digestion, and emotional well-being to understand the bigger picture.

From there, you'll receive a custom wellness plan that may include nutritional guidance, lifestyle adjustments, supplement recommendations, and holistic practices to support your body's natural healing process. The session is collaborative, educational, and designed to empower you with tools for lasting health.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

  • Holistic health practices may be right for you if you're looking for a natural, root-cause approach to your wellness, especially if you've struggled with ongoing symptoms, want to improve your overall health, or prefer to avoid relying solely on medication. These services would also be right for you if you want to approach your health concerns using an alternative approach using different modalities and a different perspective. Mant people often stumble upon going a more holistic approach after going the medical route. Whatever lead you here, trust your intuition. They're ideal for those who value preventive care, want to understand their body better, and are open to making sustainable lifestyle changes.

If you're curious, a consultation can help determine if this approach aligns with your needs and goals—it’s all about finding what works best for you.

  • The time it takes to notice changes varies from person to person, depending on your current health, consistency, and the nature of your concerns. Some people feel improvements—like more energy, better digestion, or clearer thinking—within a few days to a couple of weeks, while deeper changes, such as hormonal balance or chronic symptoms, may take several weeks to months.

Holistic health focuses on long-term, sustainable results, so gradual progress is normal and often more lasting than quick fixes. Regular follow-ups help track your progress and adjust your plan as needed.

  • Yes, holistic health practitioners can work with children, seniors, and individuals with chronic illness, tailoring care to each person’s age, condition, and unique needs. The approach is always gentle, supportive, and personalized—whether it’s helping a child with digestion, a senior with energy or inflammation, or someone managing a long-term health condition.

We also collaborate with other healthcare providers when needed to ensure safe, well-rounded care that supports your overall wellness.

  • Yes, supplements and herbal remedies may be included as part of your personalized wellness plan, depending on your individual needs. Holistic health practitioners often recommend high-quality, evidence-based products to support areas like digestion, immunity, energy, or hormonal balance. However, the focus is always on food-first and lifestyle-based strategies, with supplements used to fill gaps or support healing when appropriate. All recommendations are tailored to your body, goals, and any existing medications or conditions.

  • Holistic health services, including consultations with a Certified Nutrition Practitioner (CNP) or Holistic Health Practitioner, are not covered by OHIP. However, some extended health insurance plans or health spending accounts (HSAs) may provide partial reimbursement, depending on your provider and plan.

We recommend checking with your insurance provider to see if services like nutritional counseling or naturopathic care are eligible. We’re happy to provide detailed receipts to support any claims you may submit.

  • The frequency of follow-up visits depends on your individual health goals and the nature of your concerns. Typically, after an initial consultation, follow-up visits may be scheduled every 2-4 weeks to monitor progress, make adjustments to your plan, and ensure you're staying on track.

For more chronic or complex issues, you may need slightly more frequent visits initially, while for general wellness or maintenance, follow-ups could be spaced out over time. Your practitioner will work with you to create a schedule that fits your needs and supports long-term success.

Cleanse & Detox

  • A cleanse or detox program is a structured approach designed to help your body eliminate toxins, waste, and built-up impurities that may accumulate over time from environmental factors, food, or lifestyle habits. These programs often involve dietary changes, such as eating whole, nutrient-dense foods, drinking plenty of water, and sometimes incorporating supplements or herbal remedies to support your body's natural detoxification processes. The goal is to reset your system, improve digestion, boost energy, and promote overall health and well-being.

  • Depending on the type of cleanse or detox, we work on your body’s major detox organs to support the body's natural detoxification systems—such as the liver, kidneys, digestive tract, and skin—in eliminating toxins, waste, and impurities. During a cleanse, you'll typically adjust your diet, hydration, supplement regimen and lifestyle habits to support the cleanse.

As you follow the program, your body flushes out built-up toxins through sweat, urine, and stool, helping to improve digestion, reduce bloating, boost energy, and support overall vitality.

  • A cleanse or detox can help your body rid itself of accumulated toxins and impurities, offering a variety of potential health benefits. These include:

    1. Digestive Health: A cleanse can support your digestive system by improving regularity and reducing bloating or discomfort.

    2. Enhanced Energy: By eliminating foods and substances that can drain your energy, a detox may help you feel more vibrant and alert.

    3. Skin Rejuvenation: Detoxing can help clear up skin blemishes and promote a more radiant complexion by flushing out toxins.

    4. Mental Clarity and Focus: Many people experience improved mental sharpness and reduced brain fog after completing a detox program.

    5. Improved Immune Function: A detox helps support your body’s natural detox organs, boosting your immune system and helping to fight off illnesses.

    6. Reduced Inflammation: Cleansing can help lower inflammation levels, which may improve conditions like joint pain or bloating.

    7. Balanced Weight: While not a weight-loss program, a cleanse can support healthy metabolism and may help reduce water retention.

Overall, a detox can be a great way to recharge your body and mind, offering both short-term benefits and long-lasting improvements to your health.

  • The duration of a cleanse or detox can vary depending on the type of program and your personal health goals:

    1. Short-term Cleanses (3-5 days): These are often used for a quick reset, focusing on digestive support and eliminating toxins. These cleanses typically involve simple, easy-to-digest foods like fruits, vegetables, and herbal teas. They're ideal for people looking for a gentle detox or to kick-start a healthier routine.

    2. Moderate Cleanses (7-10 days): These are often more comprehensive and may focus on cleansing the liver, kidneys, and digestive system. They might involve more restrictive dietary changes or incorporate supplementslike herbal detox teas or liver-supporting herbs. This length is suitable for people looking for deeper detoxificationand health improvement.

    3. Long-term Cleanses (14-21 days): Longer cleanses typically involve a more intensive detox and can include a variety of foods, juices, supplements, or fasting protocols designed to address chronic issues like inflammation, digestive health, or immune support. These are often more customized and may require additional guidance from a holistic health practitioner.

Ultimately, the duration of a cleanse depends on your health needs, goals, and the specific type of detox you choose. A practitioner can help you determine the best length based on your lifestyle and the level of detoxification you desire.

  • Yes, when done properly and with guidance, a cleanse or detox can be safe for most healthy individuals. The key is choosing a program that is balanced, not overly restrictive, and supports your body’s natural detox processes rather than pushing it too hard.

That said, detoxes may not be appropriate for everyone—especially those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, underweight, or managing certain medical conditions. It’s always best to consult with a qualified practitioner before starting any cleanse to ensure it’s safe and suitable for your individual health needs.

  • Some people may experience mild side effects during a cleanse or detox, especially in the first few days as the body begins to eliminate built-up toxins. Common symptoms can include headaches, fatigue, mood changes, digestive upset, or skin breakouts. These are usually temporary and often a sign that the body is adjusting and releasing waste.

Staying well-hydrated, getting enough rest, and following a gentle, supportive program can help minimize discomfort. If side effects are severe or persistent, it’s important to stop the cleanse and consult a practitioner.

  • It depends on the type of detox program you're following. Some gentle detoxes allow you to maintain a modified version of your regular diet—focusing on whole, unprocessed foods while eliminating things like sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and processed meals.

Other, more structured detox programs may require specific dietary guidelines or temporary restrictions to support deeper cleansing. In most cases, the goal isn’t extreme restriction, but rather to nourish the body with clean, supportive foods that help the detox process. A practitioner can help tailor a plan that fits your lifestyle while still being effective.

  • How often you should do a cleanse or detox depends on your lifestyle, health goals, and how your body responds. For most people, doing a gentle cleanse seasonally (about 3–4 times a year) is a great way to reset and support the body's natural detox pathways.

Shorter cleanses, like a 3-day digestive reset, can be done more frequently, while deeper detox programs are best spaced out and done with guidance. It’s important to give your body time to rest and recover between detoxes, and focus on maintaining healthy habits year-round for lasting results.

  • You may lose some weight during a detox or cleanse, but it's usually due to reduced inflammation, water retention, and lighter eating, rather than fat loss. While detoxing can help kick-start healthier habits and improve digestion, it’s not designed as a long-term weight loss solution.

That said, a well-structured cleanse can support your metabolism and energy levels, making it easier to maintain a healthy weight over time when combined with balanced nutrition and lifestyle changes.

  • If you have specific health conditions, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider or qualified holistic practitioner before starting any cleanse or detox. Some programs may not be suitable—or may need to be carefully modified—for conditions like diabetes, kidney or liver issues, low blood pressure, or autoimmune disorders.

That said, many gentle, food-based cleanses can be safely tailored to support people with health concerns when done under professional guidance. The key is choosing a program that supports your body without adding stress or depleting essential nutrients.

  • Yes, it's important to ease back into your regular routine gradually after a detox to maintain the benefits and avoid overwhelming your system. This usually means continuing to eat whole, nourishing foods, staying hydrated, and avoiding a sudden reintroduction of processed foods, caffeine, or alcohol.

Many people find that adopting a few of the healthy habits from their detox—like improved eating patterns or hydration—helps them feel better long term. A practitioner can also provide a post-detox plan to support a smooth transition and lasting results.

  • A cleanse or detox may be right for you if you're experiencing signs like low energy, sluggish digestion, bloating, frequent headaches, skin issues, or trouble focusing, and you're looking to reset and support your overall wellness. It can also be helpful if you’re feeling run down after periods of stress, poor eating habits, or overindulgence.

That said, not every body needs the same approach—so it's best to consult with a holistic health practitioner to determine if a detox is appropriate for your current health and goals.

  • What’s included in a cleanse can vary depending on the type of program, but most cleanses typically involve:

    • A structured meal plan focused on whole, anti-inflammatory foods

    • Herbal or nutritional supplements to support detox organs like the liver and kidneys

    • Hydration guidance, often with added electrolytes or detox-supportive teas

    • Lifestyle recommendations such as rest, movement, or stress-reducing practices

    • Optional add-ons like colon hydrotherapy or lymphatic drainage for deeper detox support

Your practitioner may tailor the cleanse to your needs, offering additional support through check-ins, educational materials, or symptom tracking.

  • Detox symptoms—also known as a “healing crisis” or detox reaction—can occur as your body begins to eliminate built-up toxins. These symptoms are typically temporary and may include:

    • Headaches

    • Fatigue or low energy

    • Digestive changes (like bloating or loose stools)

    • Irritability or mood swings

    • Mild body aches or chills

    • Skin breakouts or rashes

    • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

While not everyone experiences these symptoms, they’re generally a sign that your body is adjusting and starting to release stored waste. Staying hydrated, resting, and following the cleanse properly can help ease the intensity and support a smoother detox process.

  • Yes, it’s quite normal to experience feelings of irritability, emotional ups and downs, or even anger during a cleanse or detox. These emotional symptoms can occur as your body adjusts to changes in diet, the elimination of toxins, or even shifts in blood sugar levels. The detox process not only affects your physical body but can also stir up emotions and stress that your body has been holding onto.

These feelings are typically temporary and part of the body’s natural process of releasing accumulated toxins. You may also be experiencing withdrawal symptoms from caffeine, sugar, or other substances. Supporting yourself with hydration, gentle self-care, and taking time to rest can help ease these emotional symptoms as your body adjusts.

Naturopathic Doctor

  • A Naturopathic Doctor is a licensed healthcare provider who combines modern science with natural therapies to support the body’s healing process. NDs are trained in clinical diagnosis, nutrition, herbal medicine, lifestyle counseling, and other holistic approaches.

  • Naturopathic care can support a wide range of concerns, including:

    • Digestive issues (IBS, bloating, food sensitivities)

    • Hormonal imbalances (PMS, thyroid, menopause)

    • Fatigue, stress, and mood disorders

    • Skin conditions

    • Autoimmune concerns

    • Preventive care and overall wellness

  • Your first visit typically lasts 60–90 minutes and includes a detailed review of your health history, lifestyle, nutrition, and current symptoms. Your ND will create a personalized treatment plan that may include lab testing, natural supplements, dietary guidance, and lifestyle changes.

  • Naturopathic medicine focuses on treating the root cause of illness rather than just managing symptoms. While conventional medicine may rely heavily on prescription drugs or surgery, NDs prioritize natural and less invasive treatments first, integrating conventional tools when necessary.

  • Yes. Licensed NDs are trained in both traditional healing practices and modern clinical sciences. Many naturopathic therapies are supported by scientific research and clinical evidence, and NDs stay current with developments in both natural and conventional medicine.

  • Absolutely. Naturopathic care works well alongside conventional treatments. NDs often collaborate with primary care physicians, specialists, and other health professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.

  • Naturopathic services are not covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), but many extended health benefit plans do cover naturopathic visits, either partially or in full. Coverage amounts vary by provider and plan.
Check your insurance policy for details under “paramedical services” or “naturopathic services.” We provide official receipts that can be submitted for reimbursement.
Additionally, many plans (and Health Spending Accounts or HSAs) may also cover lab testing, acupuncture performed by an ND, and prescribed supplements.
